Building Management & the Power of a Day 2 Focus

In the architectural and construction industries, the term ‘Day 2 Services’ refers to everything that occurs once a project’s construction phase is complete and the building in question is fully operational. It refers to daily functions, including those associated with wiring and electricals, plumbing, automated systems, HVAC, and so on.

In this session of CPD Live, we examine Day 2 Services from an architectural perspective. We look at how – in this age of automation, digitisation, and Smart technologies – the role of architects and designers in building management has transformed and expanded.

Focussing on the example of motorised and automated blinds, our speakers will outline the role operational data plays in not just facilitating maintenance planning but transforming it from a preventative activity to a predictive one.

They will shine a light on the ways that future proof wiring (incorporating Smart technologies) simplifies refurbishments, performance upgrades, and end-of-life planning. And they will explain the ways in which a focus on Day 2 System Audits, product stewardship and circularity can help architects ensure the overall sustainability of their work.

At the end of this presentation, you should be able to:

  •   Define the term ‘Day 2 Services’ and explain its relevance to architects
  •   Outline the ways building operators can benefit from operation data associated with motorised blinds
  •   Explain how ‘Smart’ wiring strategies can help future proof commercial buildings
  •   Outline the role Day 2 System audits play in refurbishments and end-of-life planning
