Selection of Aluminium Windows & Doors for Commercial Applications

This session takes a practical, performance-based look at the selection of aluminium window and door systems for commercial buildings. We examine the structural, compliance, energy, and finishing considerations that influence product choice, while unpacking how framing systems, glazing, movement allowances, and surface treatments affect long-term performance.
The module covers the key considerations involved in commercial applications, including structural adequacy, building movement, facade typologies, and compliance with the NCC and relevant Australian Standards. We also discuss how energy performance indicators—such as Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, U-value, and Visible Light Transmission—inform glazing and framing selection, and how surface finishing options influence durability and maintenance obligations.
The core of this session is that effective specification requires a holistic understanding of structure, performance, compliance, and finish. When these factors are considered early and documented clearly, they support facades that are compliant, durable, and aligned with project performance objectives.
