James Hardie Modern Homes Forecast 2026: Creative Expression and the Future of Adaptive, Human-Centred Homes

This session is based on the latest research from James Hardie, the Modern Homes Forecast 2026, developed in collaboration with WGSN, that identifies the key social, economic, environmental, technological, and human factors shaping how Australians want to live. We will walk through how these macro drivers are translated into clear home living trends, design principles and ultimately into eight emerging Homestyles that respond to evolving lifestyle expectations.
This module covers the implications of emerging residential design trends for material selection, facade design, and architectural detailing in modern residential projects. It examines how the design language of eight Homestyles, from Box Modern to Mid-Century Modern to Modern Coastal and more, are evolving to meet changing occupant expectations. By the end of this session, architects and designers will be able to take the insights from the Modern Homes Forecast 2026 and develop informed, evidenced-based design approaches that respond to future housing needs within the Australian regulatory and market context.

SARAH ROGERS
Territory Manager – Northern Victoria & NSW Riverina
With a decade of experience in the Building and Construction industry, my current role allows me to work with builders, architects, and resellers to support the uptake of lightweight cladding and help change the way Australians build homes.
I have a passion for design and nothing gives me more pleasure than driving around the region and seeing the beautiful homes I have helped to design come to life and the families that get to enjoy them. Being in this industry, we are very lucky to help support people to achieve the great Aussie dream of owning their very own home, and even more importantly, helping them build something they love the look of.
