Thermal performance has always been a fundamental consideration in building design, but as the NCC raises minimum energy efficiency requirements, the pressure to specify insulation that reliably performs over time has never been greater.
For many architects and specifiers, rigid insulation remains a product category that is understood in general terms but less well understood at the specification level, where product selection, detailing fire compliance and condensation risk all need to be considered.
Today’s session will build practical knowledge around rigid insulation: how it works, how to select the right product for the right application and how to document it correctly across wall, roof, floor and soffit assemblies, with fire and condensation considerations addressed along the way.

By the end of this CPD session, you will be able to:

  • Explain the thermal performance benefits of rigid insulation and the key factors that inform product selection and specification.
  • Apply selection criteria to match rigid insulation products to project requirements across wall, roof, floor and soffit applications.
  • Produce accurate specification documentation referencing correct products, installation details, and relevant NCC and Australian Standard requirements.
  • Identify fire performance and condensation risks associated with rigid insulation assemblies and describe appropriate mitigation strategies.
