Fire protection is a fundamental requirement in modern construction, ensuring that buildings not only meet regulatory obligations but also safeguard occupants and property from fire risks. This CPD course, delivered by Promat Australia, provides architects, designers and specifiers with essential knowledge on passive fire protection within wall and ceiling systems.

The session explores the key principles of fire protection design, including compartmentation, separation and system performance. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the National Construction Code (NCC) requirements and relevant Australian Standards, as well as the terminology and certification processes that support compliant specification and professional accountability.

A focus is placed on the testing and validation of fire-rated systems, particularly in lightweight construction. By examining how fire test reports and certificates are developed, reviewed and applied, participants will be better equipped to evaluate technical information and make informed specification choices that support safety.

Through practical insights, the course highlights how to select and specify systems that balance performance, safety, compliance and constructability while meeting the unique needs of different projects.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand fire protection principles and NCC compliance.
  • Interpret key terminology, reports and certificates.
  • Explain testing processes for fire-rated systems.
  • Specify compliant, high-performance wall and ceiling solutions.
